I don’t think Buhari apologists expected to be defending the president’s actions to Nigerians this early. I believe they felt it would take at least the first 100 days of honeymoon bliss before the first rows start.
Alas, like the bride spurned at the altar, PDP stalwarts and other well meaning Nigerians pounced on him straight from the word go.
It started with the expensive wristwatch . At first, defenders of Saint Buhari told us it was a replica worth only 129 dollars, but when it was discovered it was actually the real deal worth over 10m naira, the tone changed.
They challenged us, calling us poor people with shallow minds. “So what if it is expensive, is it your father’s money? ” they attacked.
They conveniently ignored our confusion as per how the wife of a man who is too poor to afford a house in Abuja, a man so poor he had to borrow 27m to be able to buy application form, is able to flaunt a 10m watch on her well toned wrist.
Something doesn’t ring true here.
Then, almost three months into the administration, we still do not have ministers to assist the president. When we talk, the apologists will tell us ” shut up there, ignorant fools. Do you know how long it took Jonathan to appoint ministers? “. The problem with this is that we were not happy with the way johnny boy ruled us that was why we voted in the CHANGE advocates. Why then should we take the same nonsense Jonathan gave us from you?
The president appointed a new INEC boss (interim )and the rumours were that she is related to Oga Honest. When we talk, it’s the same story. “You people are fools. When Jonathan made his wife permanent secretary, what did you do ?”. We are getting really confused here. We thought we got rid of nepotism when we got rid of Jonathan. Is our new president his own man or is he Jonathan – lite? We thought with the CHANGE slogan, old things are passed away and we are now all new creatures.
When Bukola Saraki betrayed PDP to help APC, he was hailed a patriot but when he used the same trick on APC to fulfill his ambition, he was termed a traitor. Ha ha ha.
I gotta stop with this one. I recall we all termed Jonathan a regional president because he focused mainly on his stronghold, where he believed he had the most votes. He was abused, cursed, spat on by Buhari supporters because of this. Recently, our good president was quoted as saying he will concentrate more on the people who voted for him than the other Nigerians. I waited for the “patriotic Nigerians ” to condemn this as they had done during GEJ’S time, say wetin? They came out praising Buhari for his “honesty “!!!
I can just imagine the uproar in the UK if Cameron came out to say he will concentrate developments and projects on the posh areas of the kingdom because people there are loyal Tories or how many days Obama will last in office if he came out to say he will favour blacks and Hispanics more than other Americans because they voted more for him.
I was almost convinced by the Facebook stalwarts of Buhari that they were supporting him not for personal gains but pure patriotism, but their hypocrisy in the last few weeks has convinced me it is all bull. The more things change, the more they remain the same. God bless Nigerians.
