Buratai commends troops for repelling insurgents’ attacks on Damaturu |

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has commended the doggedness of troops for repelling the recent Boko Haram attacks on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The insurgents were defeated at Maisandari community along Maiduguri road in the outskirts of Damaturu.In a statement yesterday in Damaturu, acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Lt. Njoka Irabor, disclosed that the commendation was conveyed by the Theatre Commander,Maj-Gen. Benson Akinroluyo.

According to Irabor: “The gallant troops, on Tuesday, successfully foiled attempts of insurgents to attack Maisandari community, killing many of them and destroying gun trucks and other equipment along Maiduguri road.”Akinroluyo, who addressed the troops at 233 Battalion Headquarters, also applauded the efforts of the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole and other security agencies, as well as law-abiding citizens for their support and cooperation in the counter-insurgency operations to restore peace in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, adding their support and cooperation led to the successful defeat of the terrorists that burst into Damaturu through north flank of Sambisa Forest.

He charged the troops to remain professional and responsive in defeating the fleeing terrorists from the forest, stressing the need for synergy and collaborative efforts between the military and other security agencies to deny the terrorists any freedom to operate.The Commanding Officer, 233 Battalion, Lt-Col yesterday briefed Akinroluyo on the attack.
