The trial of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false assets declaration was yet again adjourned on Tuesday till July 21, 2016 for it to rule on an application for the Chairman, Danladi Umar, to step down.

Umar, who said he would not be available at the earlier next adjourned date of June 22 as he would be out of town, gave the new date to hear the application of bias filed by Saraki’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Saraki, whose 16-count trial began on September 22, 2015, had argued that Umar was not qualified to sit over his case as he (CCT chairman)had a pending corruption case at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Saraki’s lawyers had on April 21 filed the same application but it was thrown out.

Again, on June 15, they raised the same matter but Umar adjourned it till June 21.

The issue of bias has stood as a major point in the trial.
