Rivers United Coach, Stanley Eguma, has said that his team was ready to bounce back from their recent defeats, as they meet former champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba.

The Pride of Rivers will clash with the People’s Elephants in one of today’s Match Day 15 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). The match holds at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar.

In a chat with The Guardian yesterday, Eguma said following the circumstances that surrounded their exit from the CAF Champions League preliminary to Al-Merreikh of Sudan, and the defeats to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM FC), that his team has put that behind them in order to forge ahead.

“After the circumstances in which we lost to Al-Merreikh in the CAF Champions League and our defeat to MFM FC, we have put all of these behind us. Now we look forward to correcting our mistakes and ensure that we come out a better team.

“We know that Enyimba is a very strong team in the league. A club that has won the league several times in the past and with their pedigree, we are not going to take them for granted. We have our respect for them and they know Rivers United too is equally a good side. For us to be playing on the continent means that we are a good side,” he said.

Speaking on their chances against the two-time winners of CAF Champions League, the coach of the Pride of Rivers said, “It is a 50/50 game, we will try our best not to drop points as we have been doing of late.

“This is the time for us to start picking up points if we are to climb up the NPFL’s log. We are here in Calabar to get a good result,” he stated.

Rivers United currently sits on the 18th position of the NPFL, while the Enyimba occupies eighth spot.
