The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) said it would develop an acceptable template for Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to improve transparency in the system.
Chairman of the commission, Mr Victor Morako, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at a strategic session organised by the League of Civil Society Organisations for Government institutions.
He said that the move became necessary because most agencies were operating without MTEF.
Marako explained that the non-institutionalisation of MTEF in some government agencies was responsible for the high rate of abandoned projects across the country.
“There is still need for greater consultation with shareholders, the parliament and MDAs in the formulation of terms in sectoral strategies.
“These are not the things you can do without direct involvement of MDA; we need to improve it, we need to come out for standard template for MTEF,’’ he said.
This, he explained, would make it a norm for every agency to embrace it and help to address issues of abandoned projects scattered across the country.
Earlier, President of the League, Mr Adefela Kamal, said that change should begin with civil society organisations in the country, adding that there was also need for policy makers to make some amendments.
He noted that it was not enough for the Federal Government to formulate policies but to ensure the implementation of sure policies in the interest of all.
Kamal said that this was critical in ensuring that the change agenda of the Federal Government was achieved.
He added that the league was poised to ensure that CSOs in the country were brought on track to ensure that true change was enthroned.
