The Ebira Community in the South of Ekiti State, on Sunday appealed to the state Governor, Kayode Fayemi, to support a member of the All Progressives Congress from the Southern Senatorial District to succeed him in 2022.

One of the community leaders, Salaudeen Yunusa, who spoke on behalf of the community explained that the Ebira have been integrated into the southern district, having lived and worked there for years.

Yunusa spoke during a consultative meeting with the Special Assistant to the Governor on Ethnic Relations, Sulaiman Nasiru, in Ado Ekiti.

He said, “Having lived and worked in Ekiti State for over 50 years, we are now part of the stakeholders whose opinion on politics and the general state of affairs in Ekiti should not be ignored.

Seventy-five per cent of Ebira people in Ekiti State live and work in Ekiti South. We want a face-lift in our infrastructure. We want one of us who will provide security for us and protect us from marauding herdsmen destroying our farmlands daily.

“We are strong stakeholders here. We strongly believe in fairness and equity, considering a governor has never emerged from the South Senatorial District since the creation of Ekiti State. Governor Fayemi is a man of principles, who believes and always does the right thing when it comes to equity and fairness.”

He explained that having lived and worked in the area for over 50 years, they have qualified to be called sons and daughters of the soil. The governor’s aide, Nasiru, who lauded the Ebira Community for their conduct, appealed to them to continue to maintain peace, saying, “Plans are being made to stop the excesses of the Fulani herders. Your complaints shall be officially conveyed to the governor for quick intervention.”
