Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa, says theĀ All Progressives CongressĀ (APC) will adopt consensus candidates at its national convention on Saturday.
The APC national convention is scheduled to take place this Saturday.
Sule, who is the chairman of the media and publicity sub-committee for the convention, spoke on Friday at a news briefing in Abuja.
The governor said the party prefers the consensus method in electing officials because it creates a ārancour-freeā exercise.
āWe have mentioned over and over, as far as our party is concerned, we have all the three options in our constitution and the number one choice always in our party is consensus because it creates a rancour-free convention,ā he said.
āThe reason being that all stakeholders from the various zone will seat, agree and all aspirants will agree and sign off before you go into the convention. So our first choice is always consensus and we are still on that first choice.
āHowever, democracy demands, even the constitution demands that if that doesnāt work, we would go ahead and look at other options. But right now that remains our option ā our number one.ā

āIf you are having consensus, you have people, aspirants, stakeholders and constituency that have agreed.
āIn that case, that name automatically would be adopted. That is the meaning of the unity list. That is how unity list would be put together.ā
While the party is opting for consensus candidates for the national working committee (NWC) positions, some members have disagreed over the method.
