Court Remands 12 Suspects Over Gruesome Murder Of Ogun Monarch

An Ogun State Magistrate’s Court sitting at Itori, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday, remanded 12 suspected killers of the Olu of Agodo, Oba Olajide Odetola.

The suspects were alleged to have killed Oba Odetola and burnt his remains.

They were later arrested in connection with the crime.

Our correspondent gathered that the late traditional ruler was attacked when he visited a portion of his land in the town on Monday, January 24, 2022.

The suspects allegedly locked him in his red Toyota Sienna SUV 2016 model, where he was set ablaze.

The defendants are Abiodun Sanyaolu, Lukman Azeez, Fatai Ramon, Adeniyi Samuel Akinjiyan, Femi Adeniyi and Monsuru Ramon.

Others are Ojo Olatidebe, Segun Akinjiyan, Adewale Odunayo, Oladele Idowu, Saheed Ramon and Ajinbosin Gbeminiyi.

The prosecuting counsel, Saheed Yinusa, while requesting the remand of the defendants in the Oba Custodial Centre, said there was an application before the court dated March 24, 2022, and filed on the same day.

While citing Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Ogun State, Yinusa asked the court to remand the defendants for 60 days at the first instance, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

He supported his prayers with a 16-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Sergeant Ogunkunle Samuel and annexed with 20 exhibits.

Granting the request of the prosecuting counsel, Magistrate O.F. Adeduntan ordered that the accused be remanded in the Oba Custodial Centre and adjourned the matter till June 17, 2022.

The charges read in part, “That the accused did murder one Oba Olajide Ayinde Odetola, the Alagodo of Agodo town, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.

“The accused also did set ablaze the corpse of Oba Olajide Ayinde Odetola together with his Toyota Sienna car with the number plate, APP 55 GF, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 443 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.”
