In what sounds like a cross between a dating site and bidding platform for the used car industry, a new website called HiCarByeCar.com aims to offer a fresh approach to matching private sellers and car dealers.
Though it doesn’t necessarily guarantee as high a price as you might get in a conventional private sale, the site does appear to offer a safe and convenient way to expose your car to numerous dealers and to get the best possible offer from them through a bidding process.
It works like this:
1. Owner uploads car description, pictures and all other relevant details, including location.
2. The HiCarByeCar algorithm looks for the best matches between seller and dealer, giving the latter the opportunity to make offers on the car.

3. After 48 hours, the three dealers that offered the most are given the seller’s details, while the seller can see the details of all dealers that made offers.
What does it all cost?
The service is free to sellers. However dealers pay a monthly subscription fee of R1000, for which they get access to the listings and a personalised profile that they can edit and set preferences so that the site can effectively match them to the right sellers.
Will I really get a good price?
HiCarByeCar CEO Michael Zahariev believes that his platform offers safer and more convenient environment for private motorists to sell their vehicles and that it provides numerous benefits to both parties:
“The HiCarByeCar platform is an automated solution that removes the middle man, and creates the opportunity for dealerships to make informed purchasing decisions, focus on the stock they want and make acquisitions directly from the seller. Research shows that when a dealership is making an offer on a car that fits their stock profile, they are willing to pay more for it.”
