The DIG, who is on election monitoring in the 7 states of the North-West at the Zone 10 Police Command in Sokoto, said he has come to access the state of readiness of the police ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

“My visit could be regarded as formality because I was here before the election was postponed. I have come now in order to ensure that the level of readiness is as it was on Friday last week”

Talking on the general elections, DIG Baraya said the police are to provide enabling environment for voters to vote and return to their homes.

“We don’t expected any incident of thuggery in the country

because thuggery is a crime and the police are ready to arrest such a person or group of people.

“Sokoto is a very peaceful state and I expect the political actors to maintain the peace. We are going to provide the political actors too with the enabling environment to go to their polling units to vote.

“There are usually no problems when election is going on except when counting begins or ballot papers are escorted to the collation centers.

“Police should accompany INEC officers from polling units to the LG collation centers to help reinforce security at the place.
