Diri and Dickson, who enjoined the people to remain peaceful and united, also urged the clergy to continue to pray against the spirit of gossip and propaganda which were capable of causing instability and disunity that could make leaders derail.

The governor, in particular, thanked the people of the state for their cooperation and support to his administration since its inception.

He noted with appreciation to God that Bayelsa had enjoyed peace, stability and unity even as he commended the founding fathers of the state for their guidance.

Diri said, “I would like to also express my appreciation to the legislature, the judiciary and members of my cabinet for the warm and cordial working relationship among us. I must say that this is really heartwarming, and I assure you that we will continue to embark on projects that would endear the people more to our government.”

Dickson congratulated the administration of Diri for sustaining the annual thanksgiving and also ensuring continuity in other areas of governance.

He reiterated his support to the governor and his team in their efforts to develop the state, adding that “as a leader, you can’t solve all the problems.”

Also speaking, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the Chaplain of Aso Rock Villa Chapel, Pastor Seyi Malomo, said Bayelsa had set the pace for annual thanksgiving.

He advised the state government to sustain the culture of thanksgiving, stressing that the pace of development in the state had shown the presence of God.

In his remarks, a former governor of Old Rivers State, Rufus Ada-George, said God had bestowed tremendous mercy on Bayelsa since it was created in 1996, adding that it is a good thing to thank God.

He also noted that the state had produced a Vice-President and President in addition to producing the first military and civilian governors of Old Rivers State in addition to experiencing giant strides in development, among other blessings.
