DSS denies abducting Dino Melaye

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied abducting a senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly Dino Melaye from the Police hospital and forcefully took him to the Service’s medical facility in Abuja.

“The Service wishes to state that the information, as being misrepresented by sections of the media, is far from the truth,” DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said in a statement on Saturday.

“It had, at no time, abducted the Senator.”

Afunaya further stated that it was the Police that brought Melaye to the DSS facility after obtaining a 14-day detention warrant with effect from 9th January 2019.

He said, “the aim of bringing him to the Service’s facility is to complement Police efforts in giving the Senator a deserved medical attention.”

DSS’s denial came less than 24hours after it was reported that masked men stormed the police clinic in Garki, Abuja, and whisked away the lawmaker.

Following the alleged abduction there were speculations that the operatives planned to take the embattled Senator to Lokoja, Kogi State, for interrogation over the alleged shooting of one Sgt. Danjuma Aliu by suspected political thugs.

But Melaye had earlier claimed in an interview with journalists on Monday that he was not fit to travel to Lokoja where the case of an alleged culpable homicide against was being investigated by the Kogi State Police Command.
