D’Tigress Squad For 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament Announced

D’Tigress need a top-three finish at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and their coach Otis Hughley has put together a talent-laden pool to get the job done.

Hughley released a squad of 12 players which includes Ezinne Kalu, Evelyn Akhator, Aisha Balarabe, team captain, Adaora Elonu and eight others in his squad for the tournament billed for Belgrade from February 6 to February 9, 2020.

The reigning AfroBasket champions are drawn against host- Serbia, World Champions- USA and Mozambique in Group A.

They will tip-off their campaign on February 6th against Mozambique before facing hosts, Serbia two days later. Their final group game is against FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 champions, USA.

Others in the squad are Louisville University guard, Elizabeth Balogun, Musa Murjanantu, IfunanyaIbekwe, Promise Amukamara, Sarah Imovbioh and Spain based Elo Edeferioka. Others include point-guard, UpeAtosu and Pallas KunaiyiAkpannah.

The top three teams from each of these tournaments will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

USA and the hosts of the Olympic Games, Japan, will play in the qualification tournaments but will advance through to the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament regardless of their results.
