The National Working Committee Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) has officially informed the leadership of the Ebonyi state chapter of the party over the planned defection of governor David Umahi to the party.
The state chairman of APC, Hon. Eze Nwachukwu dropped this hint to Daily Trust on Wednesday.
Nwachukwu said that he was officially informed in Abuja.
He explained that the meeting which was held on Wednesday was attended by national leaders of the party.
“I’m just coming out from a meeting held in Abuja where I was officially informed of Governor Umahi’s plan to dump the opposite party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to our ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
“So wait till the details will be made known to you in Ebonyi by tomorrow.
“On weather I have been contacted the answer is ‘YES’ and it was done by leaders of our party in Abuja, simple. You will get details”, he said.
The hint of Umahi defection came barely 24 hours after he met with PDP national working committee in Abuja.
Daily Trust gathered that meeting which was attended by the National Chairman, Uche Secondus was targeted at persuading the governor not to decamp.
Although, Governor Umahi is expected to return to the state from Abuja this week for preparation to make his defection official.
However, it was gathered that two kitchen cabinet members of the governor on Tuesday held a close-door meeting with 13 council Chairmen including 64 coordinators of the development centers in the state.
The meeting was to fine-tune the success of the event which is expected to hold at the popular Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakiliki.
Also, a source at the meeting told Daily Trust that no date was fixed yet but noted that defection is real and imminent.
Similarly, a reliable source who doesn’t want his name on print said that Umahi would officially be registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at his ward Onuofukwuru 031 in Uburu, Ohanzara local government of the state.
Although, the Ohaozara local government, APC chairman, Hon. Victor Nnachi who also spoke to Daily Trust on Wednesday said that he was yet to be contacted over the registration of the governor at ward.
“As for the defection plan of governor Umahi, I have heard about it but I’m yet to be officially contacted for his registration at the ward as required in the party constitution”, he explained.
On Sunday, some members of the All Progressives Congress held a crucial meeting to smoothen Umahi’s defection. The meeting was held at Salt Spring Hotel.
Our correspondent gathered that members of the state executive council, some members of PDP and the state lawmakers would join the defection train.
