A 21-year-old student of Chemical Engineering at the University of Benin, Edo State, Diemesor Gabriel, has reclaimed a sum of N326,000 illegally withdrawn from his bank account by some suspected fraudsters.

The money, said to be part of a N600,000 scholarship grant paid into Gabriel’s account, was recovered by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and presented to him by an Assistant Commander of the commission, Adesola Amusan, on Friday.

The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Friday, said Gabriel had petitioned the anti-graft agency in September 2021, over the illegal withdrawal of N326,000 from his account.

The statement read, “In the course of investigating the petition, the commission arrested three suspects and recovered the sum of N326,000. Receiving the draft, an elated Gabriel was full of praises and commendation for the commission.”

Gabriel was quoted to have said that he never thought he could reclaim the money.
The commission has done well. I was pleasantly surprised when I was called. I had lost hope when fraudsters withdrew the money. EFCC has brought simile to my face. The money is for my school fees, project and my upkeep. I am grateful to the EFCC,” Gabriel was quoted in the statement.
