Operatives of the Edo state command Tuesday beefed security at parks and event centres as well as major streets in Benin City to forestall possible break down of law and order during Eid-Maulud celebration.

Our reporter who visited some of the parks and centres observed police officers around the vicinity to ensure hitch-free celebration, while fun-seekers were seen trooping into the areas.

An officer, who spoke to Daily Trust in confidence, said they were at the park to provide security for fun-seekers.

The Edo state command had deployed 3000 personnel to Mosques, parks, recreation and event centres for the festive season.

The state commissioner of police, Philip Ogbadu, said the deployment was to ensure hitch-free celebration across the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Godwin Obaseki has charged Muslims across the state on tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Obaseki in his message to the Muslims on the occasion of Eid-Maulud said the celebration is a time of deep reflection and soul-searching, especially with the challenges currently facing us as a nation.

“The Eid-El-Maulud celebration offers us the opportunity to ponder on the importance of peaceful coexistence and tolerance.

“The prophet’s message of peace and good neighbourliness should inspire us all to see each other as partners in progress, regardless of religious, tribal, ethnic and political affiliations.”
