Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday, met with foreign observers from the International Republican Institute (IRI), United States of America, just as he assured of adequate security during and after the election.
Answering questions from journalists at Government House, Kaduna, after a closed door meeting with some observers who came to monitor today’s election in Kaduna State, el-Rufai, called on the voters to come and vote for the party and candidates of their choice.
The governor said: “We have a delegation from the International Republican Institute of US, they came to monitor Saturday’s election. We invited them to feel free and if they need additional security, we will provide for them. “

They asked me about my comment on NTA live programme, the security situation in the state and I explained to them. The last security review we had was yesterday with all the security agencies. All the paramilitary agencies like the immigration service, prisons, civil defence and the Nigeria Customs will all go out to provide security during the elections. The security agencies are ready for the task of assisting the police.
KASTELEA will support the FRSC and as you observed, we have history of violence during elections in Kaduna State. We have made it very clear that vigilante groups will not be allowed to provide security tomorrow.”
I call on all voters to come out and vote. We are confident that everything will go well.
Everyone should be free to choose the party and candidates of his or her choice.
No one should be involved in taking another person’s life. So, we are confident that elections will go smoothly,” the governor said.
