Prince Onu who was the Ebonyi South Senatorial District candidate of the APC, said that the attacks in the state led to the death of more than 20 persons while many were injured and hospitalised.

It was gathered that the thugs also attempted to invade the house of President Mohammadu Buhari’s minister of Science and Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

Prince Nwaeze while narrating his ordeal said that the attackers invaded his house on the day the rescheduled election was to be held as he was addressing his numerous supporters in his compound in preparation for the election and he was beaten up mercilessly in the presence of some top State government officials at the instance of the governor where the governor’s ADC severally slapped Prince Onu hitting him with an object which left him with a deep cut on his forehead; while the DPO of Obiozara police station handcuffed Prince Onu and dragged him into a Hilux van at the full glare of the PDP thugs and his supporters like a common criminal. But for the quick intervention of the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Prince Nwaeze Onu would have died in his own pull of blood.

Prince Onu who noted that the statewide violence left not less than 50 houses, 20 vehicles and 20 motorcycles burnt beyond recognition.

He said the attack which took place in virtually all parts of the state was a clear negation of the Governor’s claim that he was working for Mr President as attacks were targeted at the APC strong holds; like Eda where the APC governorship candidate comes from and Uburu where the APC Senatorial candidate hails from; more so when the PDP thugs ensured that no posters or bill boards of Mr. President were allowed in the state. Severe pains were also inflicted on the people of Ugwulangwu, Ikwo, Onuoke, Izza, Ishiagu and Afikpo by the same PDP thugs.

He further lamented that a party loyalist, Nwagwu Nkemjika, who was placing posters of President Buhari was also brutalised in Ohaozora.

He said that the election in the state was marred by high level of intimidation and violence by thugs suspected to be hired by PDP as all APC agents were chased out of the polling units to enable the PDP manipulate the election.

Another party chieftain who pleaded anonymity for fear of been attacked said that all the polling units in the state were invaded by PDP thugs  causing fear among other party members.

” The thugs had a field day across the state as they were backed by the security agents to attack anyone who stands on their way”.
