An Elegy for Ada Mazi…
” Bury me quickly..no fuss no frills
For I was the budding rose, though sun-kissed never totally unfurled my resplendence before the sun
Fearful of wilting before noon day was done
Get it done quickly. And go about your business.
Not for me the needless clang of bells and whistles. Nor the garish horror of open caskets and lying-in-states…for voyeurs to gawk at, weep upon or share in a nightmarish feeding frenzy of curious eyes. No! I want no teardrops on my casket neither ululations of sorrow
Keep me lowered, wrapped in my full dignity..
Let me leave this space with it -back to eternal glory singing Halleluyah and Ekwe
For I lived fully…Dancing in the Sun surrounded by the Light, Love and butterflies.

The lilting guitar tunes of Iyogogo serenade me homewards. Let me go so you can go about your business and live well..the way I lived.
Live fully, smile broadly, laugh with gusto and weep when the clouds of life arrive but do not break.
When night falls and you look heavenwards pondering the twinkles of the stars, I will be there.
When dawn approaches and the dews of early morning kiss your tender cheek, I will be there.
When the gaily butterfly dances seductively around the flower, kissing it tenderly as it opens up to the beauty of the day, I will be there.
Search for me deep in your spirit, connecting in song and the lullabies of love. I will be there.
I go. ‘ Ochie Dike’ goes..
To join Mama, Papa, Richard and all the ancestors who have gone home before.
They wait on the other side of the river to receive me. My crown is ready, my raiments garnished in purple and gold. I hear the welcoming songs..Let me quicken my footsteps and hasten on my way.
I am Ada Mazi. Gone into the Morning Light.
Koõmesia!
