We are discouraging night journey due to poor visibility and poor light system, which hitherto are responsible for accidents. Also over speeding is the major cause of accidents on the road.

“There is going to be total enforcement of speed limit during the ember months, as we are poised to reduce accident by 15 per cent during the period,” he said.

He said the campaign was to collaborate with critical stakeholders in the transport sector to ensure zero fatality on the road.

FRSC State Sector Commander, Henry Benamaisia, said they have deployed 1,300 officials, 25 operational vehicles, ambulances and two toeing vehicles to ensure safety on the road during the period.

“During the ember months, we often record high accident rate because many people are in a rush. We have identified excessive speed, route and traffic rule violation among others as a major cause of accidents,” he said.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, called for concerted efforts among stakeholders to check the spate of accidents on the road.

He assured FRSC of supports to make the road safer for road users.
