Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (Radi-Allahu ‘anhu):
I heard the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) saying,
“Allah will not deprive you of knowledge after He has given it to you, but it will be taken away through the death of the religious learned men with their knowledge.
Then there will remain ignorant people who, when consulted, will give verdicts according to their opinions whereby they will mislead others and go astray.”
(Sahih Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 410)
Many of us at different times have come across such “learned” people, either within religious circles or otherwise. It is our divine duty to be bold enough to correct them if we know what the fact is, or else we’re becoming an accomplice in the spreading of ignorance and deliberate mischief.
Or maybe we are even the guilty perpetrators, it’s about time we check ourselves. If you don’t know exactly what the Qur’an or authentic ahadith say on any issue, it’s better you remain quiet on it.
May Allah save us from such behavior. Amin.
