The Deputy Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni has restated his commitment to his people, while stating that he will also ensure that his people reap the dividend of democracy in the state.
In a chat with Infotrust the State House of Assembly Town Hall Meeting & Stakeholders Engagement in all the 40 constituencies, Eshilokun representing Lagos Island Constituency 1 disclosed that the purpose of the meeting is for probity and accountability.
He said, “I was voted to represent the interest of my people, a responsibility which I take with all seriousness because my people trust in me should be well justified. They should be proud of me that i truly represent their interest”
Fielding questions from our reporter on his performance since assumption of office, Eshilokun stated that, “I hold my people in high esteem and their well-being is my priority. In the area of education, N960,000 was given out as scholarship to Mr. Maxwell Opara a visually impaired student of Bethesda School for the Blind who got admitted into the University if Nigeria to study Social Science/Education.
“Financial Support of N100,000 given to Miss Elemoro Bilikisu Motunrayo in 2017 for her academics.A quite number of student were assisted into Lagos State University for the 2016/2017 academic session. Distribution of GCE and UTME forms of 224 to indigent students in 2016 and 2017.
Speaking further, the Deputy Speaker of Lagos State declared that, he has also assisted in area of employment for his people. He said, “13 people were assisted into LASTMA, Teaching, LASIEF, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and Advantage Management Services Pent. 4 employed into the constituency office. 20 into Lagos State Neighbourhood”
Security Corps (LNSC).
“I’ve also touched the lives of 90 Petty Traders with 9 beneficiaries from each ward of 10units. 17 APC Leaders, 10 APC LGA, 10 CDA, 10 Market Associations, 13 Random beneficiaries from the streets making 150 in all”.
In the area of empowering his people, Eshilokun in response disclosed that, “4 people are benefits of Widows Economic Empowerment Scheme (WES). 2 people in Trading and Empowerment Programme for Women in Lagos State by Ministry of Women Affairs. 9 people got Empowerment materials and financial support for Senior Citizens. 2 people got LAHA Training and Empowerment of Women in Lagos. 1 person got DSTV Business Empowerment. 5 people in Digital Job Training Programme for Unemployed Youth.
5 people benefited from the Immunisation Program. 23 people got Dangote/Lagos State Govt Empowerment Program. 20 people got money from Lagos State Empowerment Trust Fund ranging from N250,000 – N5m. 42 benefited from Federal Government N- Power in 2016.
“I supported One pilgrim for each year in 2015, 2016, 2017. In 2016, i gave succour to 8 indigent aged of my constituency”, he added.
However, he said that what he, as a representative has done is just a tip of the iceberg, “What i have done through my representation to the people of my constituency is just the beginning. We at the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly intend to do much more to make our people feel the impact of the government and change mantra.
