With few months to this year’s Africa Speed Skating Championship slated to hold n Togo from December 8 to 9, 2017, President of the Roller Sports Federation of Nigeria, Comrade Joseph Eva has appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and corporate organisations to help his federation sponsor athletes to the continental showpiece.

Speaking during a meeting with club owners, coaches and technical officials aimed at charting a way forward for the game, Evah said, “ We invited club owners, coaches and technical officials from all states of the federation to brainstorm on how to move the game forward. We equally want to know what facilities they have in their various states in preparation for the African championship and where those facilities does not exist, to find out the best way to move their athletes to Lagos and make use of the National Stadium.”

Evah said it was unfortunate that a lot of attention was being paid to football at the detriment of other sports that could win many laurels for the country at international competitions.

“I am appealing to the Minister of Sports and corporate Nigeria to extend financial support to other sports, especially roller sports because a lot of youths are now engaged in it,” he said.

He announced that very soon trials will be organized to select athletes that will represent the country in the African Championship in Togo.
