Executive Director, Centre for Peace-Building and Socio-Economic Resources Development (CePSERD), Ayo Kunle Fagbemi, has alerted that there may be mutiny in the military soon if the hopelessness in its top hierarchy is not urgently addressed.

He made the assertion yesterday while speaking at a security forum on Insecurity in Nigeria-Challenges and Recommendations, organised by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).

Fagbemi said the current arrangement where no member of four regular courses could attain the highest rank in the army before retirement may precipitate a mutiny.

While calling for urgent reforms in the police and the nation’s criminal justice system, he said the country’s leadership was responsible for economic violence that has made the country the world’s capital of poverty.

Speaking earlier, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Rimamnde Shawulu Kwewum, said soldiers would soon leave Nigerian streets, adding that he had agreed with Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to take troops off the streets.
