The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said compensation, relocating and resettling residents are among factors that caused the ‘perceived’ delay of the ongoing dualisation of the 221 KM Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Road.

He said at the end of the rainy season the contractors would return to the site for the earthwork.

Fashola, who called for collaboration rather than agitation as a means to resolve issues arising from compensations, said the government was currently working with the governments of Benue and Nasarawa states to ensure that real beneficiaries got compensated and not middlemen.

Fashola in a statement by his Special Adviser Communications, Hakeem Bello, made this known during an inspection tour of ongoing dualisation of the 221 KM Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Road, the National Housing Programme and Federal Secretariat projects in Nasarawa State,

“As you know, we are dualising, so where one bridge existed before, we now have to build another bridge.”

Fashola said the road was funded from a China EXIM Bank loan, pointing out that although the decision to borrow from the Chinese bank was initiated by the immediate past administration, the process was completed by the current administration because “It is money borrowed for investment to improve peoples’ lives”
