In a chat with DAILY POST at the weekend, a niece, who pleaded anonymity, said they suspect foul play.

Public Relations Officer, Ogun Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi had explained that the deceased was not killed as speculated.

He recalled how operatives from the Obalende division, on patrol, saw a Highlander jeep parked by the roadside.

The spokesman said while on their way back, the vehicle was still at the same spot.

“This made them to check. They discovered that the man was dead in the car. There was no sign of violence in his body.

“We learnt that the man was hypertensive. It is possible that he had crisis as a result of his health challenges”, Oyeyemi said.

But the family source disclosed that the family is waiting for the outcome of an autopsy conducted at the hospital Bakare was taken to.

“We are still not convinced that Alhaji died of naturally. He left Atiba to meet with some people in Ijebu Ode and was supposed to return the same day.

“He didn’t get there, his body and car were found at Ikangba. One of his aides had suggested going on the trip with him but he said there was no need.

“We have a feeling that something beyond the ordinary happened. We are in touch with the Police as we await the autopsy report which will determine our next action,” the family source said.

The niece confirmed that the late Bakare (about 60 years old) was buried on Thursday in line with Islamic rites.
