The final weekend of the 2017/18 LaLiga season brings emotional celebrations, tearful farewells and local rivalries as another exciting campaign draws to a close.
Champions Barcelona finish their campaign on Sunday evening at home to Real Sociedad – with the Camp Nou sure to give departing captain Andres Iniesta a well-deserved send-off, and the visitors looking for a victory to secure a top half finish.
Newly crowned Europa League champions Atletico Madrid will also be sure of a rousing reception ahead of their when they return to their Wanda Metropolitano home on Sunday afternoon, with visitors Eibar still in the running to be LaLiga’s top Basque side for the first time ever.
2017/18 Champions League finalists Real Madrid play their final game before taking on Liverpool on May 26 at Villarreal on Saturday evening, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal hoping to prove their fitness a week before Kiev.
Valencia’s Mestalla stadium is sure to give their team an ovation on Sunday morning, with Los Che back in the Champions League for next term, no matter what happens in their final game against Deportivo La Coruna.
Sevilla’s final game of a rollercoaster season sees them host Alaves on Saturday evening with Europa League qualification successfully secured by temporary coach Joaquin Caparros, and the visitors also still in with a shout of finishing the campaign as the leading Basque team.
Girona visit Las Palmas Saturday afternoon with Pablo Machin’s men wanting three points which could secure the Catalans a top ten finish in their first ever LaLiga season. Getafe have also had an excellent campaign on their return to the LaLiga Santander this year, and can confirm eighth position with three points at Malaga later on Saturday.
It will be emotional at Butarque on Saturday afternoon where departing Leganes coach Asier Garitano takes charge of his final game, after five seasons in which he guided the suburban Madrid club from the Segunda B third tier to security in the LaLiga Santander top flight. Real Betis are the visitors – and will hope for a win to try and pip Villarreal to fifth place in the final standings.
