Some Christians have described fasting as a way of life that should not be trivialized.
According to them, it is abstinence from foods and sins as well as abstinence from idol worshipping to attract God’s grace.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja they said that fasting should not be something that should be attributed to hunger strike.
Mr Elvis Inuwa, a staff of MTN said that when Christians fast, the power of God becomes closer, dearer, and nearer to them, adding that it strengthens the spirit of man.
Inuwa, however, said that fasting and covenant building develop and connect his relationship directly with God in heaven.
“Every time I fast, I get closer to God; it seems my prayer life takes on a greater power during this period in my life.
“There is power in fasting and there is power in prayer; God will give you what you are asking for before you ask for it.

According to him, it helps us to realize how fragile we are as children of God and how much we depend on Him for things beyond our control.
“It is getting our minds back to reality that we are not self sufficient.
“It makes Christians to humble themselves in such a way that they will be in a sober mood to reflect on life and make amends.’’
Mr Samuel Adekunjo, a member of Cherubim and Seraphim, described fasting as something good, profitable and beneficial to a Christian that is willing to let go of earthly pleasures.
Adekunjo said that fasting and prayer were often linked together; adding that the two showed how serious minded Christians should be with God.
Mrs Adebanke Tomori said that fasting could be profitable if observed on a truthful note.
Tomori noted that she had encountered God in the cause of her faithful fast.
“God has blessed my family because we were struggling and not until I went to God with my family with fasting and prayer.
“What I thought was not possible was made possible through sincere fasting and prayers on that particular subject matter,’’ she said.
NAN reports that Churches within the F.C.T were observing the fasting period, which normally comes at the beginning of every year.
