The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) kicked off the construction of the Kagini Light Rail station’s access road and parking lot on Thursday in Abuja.
The project, with an estimated cost of N1,830,392,695.00 and funding from the Ministry of Environment’s Green Bond fund, was stated to have been given to an indigenous contractor and is scheduled to be finished within twelve months.
At the flag-off event, the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Bello said the project was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari earlier this year as part of efforts to speed up Infrastructural development in the nation’s capital.
Bello explained that the Kagini Train Station was built to provide residents in the area and neighbouring districts with the benefits of a modern rail transit system while also helping to reduce harmful carbon emissions.
The project was funded from the profits of the Federal government’s second sale of the Sovereign Green Bond, according to the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohmood Abubakar, who was also the main guest who performed the ceremony.
He also promised that, through the Green Bond program, his Ministry would collaborate with the FCT to address the long-standing issue of inadequate traffic signal management.
Abubakar stated that the government is utilizing the Green Bond project to combat the country’s climate change threat.

Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, said the project was in line with the administration’s commitment to developing and providing services that directly benefit citizens.
Aliyu went on to say that the administration was enlisting the help of private sector stakeholders and resources to fund more people-centred projects that would improve people’s lives.
“We are persuaded of the need to provide an enabling climate for businesses to prosper while also lowering the cost of doing business,” she said.
“We’ve implemented measures to help establish and aggregate stakeholder competencies and commitments needed to mobilize public and private resources for growing the nation’s capital and enriching the lives of all citizens,” says the president.
