Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Nimi Akinkugbe, has said that walking her son down the aisle on his wedding day was a special moment to her.

In a Facebook post late Monday, the excited mum shared videos and pictures of herself and her son on the latter’s wedding day.

According to her, the role of the groom’s mother was usually limited during wedding ceremonies, hence her pleasure at her role during her son’s wedding in New York.

She wrote, “Traditionally, the role of the Mother of the Groom is much more limited than that of the mother of the bride. It’s usually at the discretion of the couple.

“It was thus such a pleasure to receive a lovely message from my son on 23rd March asking if I would like to walk with him down the aisle! I’m more used to the groom walking with his best man, but I’ve never said yes so fast!!

“We were followed closely behind by my husband and the bride’s mother. A lovely touch. I walked with the confidence that his choice of a life partner, our beautiful daughter Rekha, is perfect, by God’s Grace.

“It was one of the most special moments of my life being escorted by my son to my seat in the front row and then on to his position ready to receive his beloved Rekha!

Choice of music for our mother-son dance was a no-brainer. “Blessed” by Wizkid!

“I feel truly blessed and pray that God will continue to bless their union and keep them through life’s journey. Look forward to celebrating them the Nigerian way in due course. #LagosTrad.”
