The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi is collaborating with two outfits – Doctors on the move Africa and Z.K. Health Consult Ltd- to offer free surgeries to 110 patients with different ailments.
According to the FMC’s Medical Director, Dr. Joshua Gyang, 30 patients with ailments like Hernia, cataract, prostrate issues, lumps and fibroid have been successfully operated upon.
Gyang, who spoke with newsmen on Sunday, the first day of the exercise, said that the gesture was part of FMC’s efforts to assist indigent patients and improve health service delivery in the rural areas.

Aside the surgeries, Gyang said that medical tests were being carried out on some people, while drugs were also being distributed to those requiring them.
The medical director advised Nigerians to take their health seriously by going for regular medical checkups, noting that a healthy nation was a wealthy one.
Also speaking, Dr. Olusola Ajamu, a consultant surgeon with the FMC, who is also the coordinator of the programme, commended FMC’s management for initiating the collaborative effort to bring succour to the poor.
“This gesture will improve the health of many people and boost their standards of living,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Hafsat Abubakar, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thanked the FMC for the gesture and urged that it be sustained to help the poor.
