Foundation educates women on healthy practices |

SOW&G foundation has organised a health outreach for women and girls in Sangotedo axis of Ajah, Lagos.

The women were taught by seasoned health and nutrition professionals, who admonished them on the prevention of communicable diseases and healthy lifestyles, as well as daily maintenance of personal hygiene.

The foundation’s secretary, Nedy Akwiwu said: “The foundation aims at empowering women and girls everywhere through mentorship, strategic partnerships, poverty alleviation initiatives and trainings.”

Representative of Afonchies Pharmacy, Dr. Ovo Evbodi said her organisation partnered with the foundation to conduct free medical tests such as blood pressure, blood glucose levels and malaria. Also, one of the facilitators, Chief Daniel Olurin stressed the importance of maintaining high level of hygiene especially in preparing meals.

“The most common problem associated with unhygienic environment is Salmonella poisoning, which could be prevented by having a clean environment, cooking food to the right temperature, not mixing chemical with food, among other dos and don’ts of cooking,” he added.

Another facilitator, Dr. Tolu Taiwo, a medical practitioner added that washing hands alone could prevent about 50 percent of illnesses that one can contract.

United Nations (UN) representative, Mrs. Bolanle Olumekor, encouraged women to ensure their female children are given equal opportunities as their male counterparts.
