Over 1,000 students compete in 2017 Ovie Brume Global Peace Games
The Ovie Brume Foundation, which says its aim is to discover and nurture young sports talents, as well as promote Nigeria’s peace and unity, at the weekend held its annual Global Peace Games at the Methodist Boys High School, Lagos.

The games, which had over 1000 students from over 20 Lagos schools, was an opportunity for the youths to showcase their talents in different events, including track and field athletics.

Speaking at the event, the Foundation’s Executive Director, Mrs. Adeola Awogbemi charged the students to never compromise their talents in sports for anything, just as she encouraged them to “take your education seriously, be empowered with it and be useful to yourself and the society.”

Awogbemi revealed that the Foundation was founded in honour of Ovie Brume, a young Nigerian who always ensured he empowered youths through education, sports and other programmes before he unexpectedly died in 2001.

The annual competition had students from Falomo Junior and Senior High School, Awoyaya Primary School, Government College Osborne and Ilado Community High School, among others, compete for medals and honours in different track events in the games.

In the spirit of unity, the students were randomly grouped into four houses; Blue, Red, Green and Yellow in no particular order. They competed in the march past, 100 metres, 200 metres, and relay race between boys and girls group.
