It was gathered that the self-acclaimed cop, who drove a vehicle with number plate WED 264 YE, was stopped for driving against the traffic but he pulled out his pistol and shot the FRSC personnel in the leg and drove away.

The Sector Commander, Ogun State Command, FRSC, Clement Oladele, while confirming the incident, stated that the injured officer was in a stable condition in hospital, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing driver.

Our correspondent learnt that the matter had been reported at the Ibafo Police Station.

Meanwhile, two persons were injured when two vehicles crashed on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.

According to Oladele, the vehicles, a Toyota Carina with number plate BDJ 865 AA, and a Sienna bus with number plate LSD 419 FM, crashed around the Muhammadu Buhari Estate end of the expressway in Abeokuta due to wrongful overtaking.

Oladele urged motorists to drive cautiously, adding that they needed to note that the areas where diversions had been removed on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were still construction zones.

He reminded them of the need to maintain the 50km per hour maximum speed limit as well as refrain from overtaking till they were clearly out of construction zones.

When contacted about the self-acclaimed policeman, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he would find out and get back to our correspondent, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
