Gaidam signs N92.2 billion budget into law

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state; has yesterday signed the N92.2 billion budget into law with an increase of capital expenditures to N45.43 billion this fiscal year.

Assenting the appropriation bill on Tuesday at the Government House, Damaturu, Gaidam said that the decrease in recurrent expenditures by N700 was to finance more capital projects.

According to him, the appropriation bill as presented December last year; remains the same, except for some internal adjustments of decreasing allocations for recurrent services with increased capital
expenditures.

His words: “Therefore, the Ministry of Works, Transport and Energy takes the lion share of N17.53 billion to enable government complete the ongoing Damaturu Cargo International Airport and other roads and infrastructural projects across the state.

He commended the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the document; 32 days after its presentation to the legislators.

He said the budget would improve education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture and creation of more jobs for the unemployed youths.

The Governor also assured that the International Cargo Airport, Damaturu which is under construction, would be completed before the end of this year.
“Government would intensify its efforts in revenue generation, promotion of transparency and probity,” he said.  He directed the state Governance Policy Reform Committee to come up with budget implementation guidelines for the attainment of budget objectives.
