Ganduje Demotes Sacked Perm Secs To Directors

Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje has ordered the permanent secretaries fired by the state government in May to be demoted to the position of directors.

Our correspondent learnt that the permanent secretaries were asked to embark on compulsory retirement, but would retire as directors.

One of the affected permanent secretaries, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development.

The Kano State Head of Service, Dr Kabiru Shehu, said the move was in accordance with the   Ganduje’s administration’s efforts to reposition the civil service.

In another development, the National Human Rights Commission has appealed to the Kano State Government to intensify youth empowerment programmes to deal with drug abuse

The coordinator of the commission in Kano, Alhaji Shehu Abbdullahi, made the appeal during an interview with reporters.

Abdullahi said he was convinced that with the empowerment programme, many youths in the state would be engaged and be of good conduct in society.

According to him, the commission has been educating secondary school pupils on the need to visit detention centres.

He said the aim was for them to know the negative impact of drug abuse.

Abdullahi advised the public to be security conscious and law-abiding. [PUNCH]
