George’s Saints and Scoundrels for launch in Port Harcourt

Poet and advocate for the elimination of violence against women, Ekaete George, whose new poetry collection, Saints and Scoundrels, will be unveiled on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Emerald Hotel, PH-Aba Expressway, Rumuola Junction, Port-Harcourt.

The launch will provide a unique opportunity to also interrogate the rising spate of physical and sexual violence against women in a panel discussion.

The panelist, who will animate the book launch, include the author herself, George, poet and university don, Dr. Obari Gomba, Founder, Mirabel Centre, Itoro Eze-Anaba, journalist, poet and activist, Betty Abah, poet, Tijah Bolton Akpan, and writer and teacher, Joy Esuku, and it will be moderated by Nigeria Info OAP, Sandra Ezekwesili. It has as theme ‘Saints versus Scoundrels: Protecting Girls from Sexual Violence.’

Also and against the backdrop of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women that was recently celebrated, George has appealled to Nigerians to join the global community to raise voices against Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) with ‘The Saints and Scoundrels Challenge’ through a “call for poems that reflect the voices of girls, who have survived (or not) sexual violence, poems that reflect the voices that prevent, defend, intervene and take action every day to protect girls from sexual predators.

Poets should post 60-second of spoken word poetry to @ekaetegeorge on Instagram with the hashtags #SaintsandScoundrelsPoems #SaintsandScoundrelsChallenge #Orangetheworld #Hearmetoo or a written a 15-line or less poem to the above.

Winning entries will be announced at the Saints and Scoundrels, with the best three poets for both categories will read/perform their poems during the conversations and prizes to be won. Entries close at midnight today, December 5, 2018.
