According to Globacom, this year’s sponsorship goes beyond corporate support, serving as a tribute to the remarkable monarch whose 65-year reign transformed the Ojude Oba Festival into one of Nigeria’s most colourful and internationally recognised cultural events.

In a statement issued in Lagos, the company said Oba Adetona’s unwavering dedication to promoting Ijebu culture, traditions, unity and values inspired its continuous support for the festival over the past two decades.
“For us, this year’s edition is not just about sponsoring the festival as we have done over the past twenty years. It is about celebrating the exemplary legacies of the revered father, Oba Adetona, who spared no effort to place the festival on an enviable pedestal,” the statement read.

The late monarch, who ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, was widely credited with modernising and elevating the profile of the festival, bringing together Ijebu sons and daughters from across the world regardless of religious or social differences.

Globacom noted that under its 21-year partnership with the festival, Ojude Oba has grown into a major cultural tourism event attracting dignitaries, tourists and participants from within and outside Nigeria.

The company further pledged its continued support for the festival as part of its broader commitment to promoting Nigerian culture and heritage on the global stage.

Oba Adetona joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, after an illustrious reign widely regarded as one of the longest and most impactful in Nigeria’s traditional institution history.
