Glo Foundation Celebrates Unsung Heroes, Rewards LAWMA Sweepers With Gifts, Skills Training

In a heartwarming gesture, Glo Foundation, the social responsibility arm of Globacom, partnered with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to host a special day of fun and appreciation for the state’s street sweepers.

The event, held at the Ijora Olopa office of LAWMA, brought together hundreds of sweepers from across the state, who were treated to a day of games, raffle draws, and exciting prizes, courtesy of Globacom.

Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of Glo Foundation, emphasized the importance of recognizing the sweepers’ tireless efforts in keeping Lagos clean. “We acknowledge the hazards you face daily and want to express our gratitude for your selfless work,” she said.

The foundation also announced plans to empower the sweepers with skills acquisition. This includes Fashion Skills (Fashion Design, jewelry making, Fabric Embellishment & Beading); Baking skills: (Basic cake and decoration, Fried and baked pastry, Bread making, soft skills and Entrepreneurship class); Digital Skills (Digital marketing, social media management, and e-commerce).programs, including fashion designing, vocational skills, online marketing, and e-commerce.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, praised Globacom for their initiative, emphasizing the critical role the sweepers play in maintaining the state’s health and well-being.

The event was a resounding success, with the sweepers expressing their gratitude to Glo Foundation and LAWMA for the opportunity to unwind and receive special recognition.

As part of the fun and excitement created exclusively for the sweepers, Globacom also held a lucky dip to give out various items including sewing machine, Inverter Microwave oven and grinding machine to some of the sweepers.

Madam Dorcas Adeniji, a resident of Oshodi in Lagos, who won a grinding machine could hardly contain her joy as she danced after receiving the item. Mrs Adewusi Bisola, who resides in Alakuko in Agbado Oke Odo LCDA, won an Inverter Microwave oven. Her friends almost mobbed her in ecstasy when she came out to receive her prize. Ige Sadatu, who won a sewing machine, thanked Globacom for the gift she was taking home.
