The Federal Government, in collaboration with key aviation stakeholders, has withdrawn criminal complaints against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, over recent incidents involving unruly behaviour at Nigerian airports.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announced the decision after consultations with airline operators, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other critical stakeholders in the sector. He said the move was taken on compassionate grounds following appeals from well-meaning Nigerians and expressions of remorse by the individuals involved.

In the case of Ms. Emmanson, who was involved in an altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight on August 10, 2025, the minister confirmed that the airline has agreed to withdraw its complaint, paving the way for her release from Kirikiri Prisons this week. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have also lifted the lifetime flight ban imposed on her, with details of the resolution to be announced soon.
For KWAM 1, whose case involved a dispute with ValueJet, the NCAA has reduced his flight ban to one month and will withdraw its criminal complaint. The music icon will also work with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as an ambassador for airport security awareness. Similarly, ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba will have their licences restored after a one-month suspension and a mandatory professional reappraisal.
Keyamo also directed relevant aviation and complementary agencies to hold a retreat next week aimed at retraining security personnel on managing disruptive passengers and de-escalating tense situations. He stressed that while the decisions were made out of compassion, the government remains committed to upholding aviation safety and security standards.
