Green House shines at Army Children Junior High School meet

With nine gold medals, four silver and three bronze medals, Green House (Brigade Commander’s House) has emerged overall winner of the Army Children’s Junior High School yearly inter-house sports competition.

Red House (Comrade Michael Alogba Olukoya House) had eight gold, five silver and 9 bronze medals to take the secpond position, while Yellow House (Alhaja Amidat Abimbola Anifowoshe House) finished third with two gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals.

The competition held at General Tukur Buratai Sports Field, Army Cantonment, Maryland, Ikeja, featured pupils of the school and invited schools, who defied the rain to showcase their athletic prowess in various events.

Excited by the pupils’ performances, Principal of the school, Prince Ade Adepetun said it placed premium on sporting activities owing to its numerous benefits to academic and social life.

According to him: “If there is anything we hold so dearly, it is sporting activities because we have for long realised that a sound mind that can only lie in a sound body. If you are not physically fit there is no way you can be mentally fit, so that is why we engage everyone in sports.

“In the area of citizenship and leadership education, this school is on top of the game. All leaners are members of one uniform club or the other. The spirits of camaraderie, good citizenship, good leadership, endurance, perseverance honesty and assiduity are promoted through the instrumentality of this club.”

The principal revealed, “We are serial award winners in sports and academics. In the whole of education District Six during the last Basic Educational Certification Examination (BECE), we were ranked among the very best in Lagos State. Even in the District Six 2016, the school presented 158 learners for the exam, 15 of them made distinction, 140 made credit, only one of them made ordinary pass and two had re-sits, one in English Studies and other in Mathematics there was no outright failure.”

Commending all those who promoted sports and educational development of the school, he pledged that the school would continually engage young learners for meaningful development.
