The incident happened around 6 am on Sunday morning.

His body was retrieved after it was washed to the river bank.

The bridge is a makeshift comprising a ladder and other materials to enable walkers cross the river.

Giving further details on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Zaid Afolabi said, “Mallam Babangida of Tunga Rijawa village fell into the Moshe Bridge and died. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.

“The deceased was a security guard at Turning Point Construction Company and while he was going home after closing from work as he was trying to cross the bridge, he fell into it and died.

“As a result of the heavy rainfall, the river wave pushed the ladder away and he fell in to the river. But his dead body was later found beside the river,” Afolabi added.

He advised residents to be very careful and watchful especially during downpours to guide against the occurrence of such incidents in the future.
