Gunmen Kill Police Escorting Election Results In Ogun

Gunmen suspected to be political thugs have killed a police Corporal identified as Sunday Idoko while on election duty in Ilaro area of Yewa- South local government area of Ogun state.

The late police Corporal was allegedly shot dead around 8p.m Sunday night at Eredo axis of Yewa South local government headquarters while escorting election result from Ipokia to Ilaro collation centre.

 

LEADERSHIP gathered that the hoodlums had laid ambush at Eredo from where they shot at the vehicle conveying the House of Representatives’ election results for Ipokia/Yewa South federal constituency to Oronna Hall in Ilaro.

 

When contacted, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident.

 

Oyeyemi, who hinted that the election result was intact however, declared that the hoodlums would be brought to book.

 

“The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday evening, when he was escorting election results to Ilaro. The hoodlums laid ambushed on the vehicle conveying the result.

 

“We are on the trail of the hoodlums and we are going to arrest them”.

 

The PPRO also said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigate and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Wale Abase to commence investigation into the matter with immediate effect.
