During his flag-off tour of the LGA/LCDA’s under his constituency, Hon Jide Akinloye has once again restate his commitment towards the betterment and growth of his people.
Hon Akinloye whose slogan for his third term bid is experience counts was at Eti-Osa, Ikoyi/Obalende and Eti-Osa East (Ward B & E) where he met with party bigwigs and stakeholders.
At different meetings with stakeholders in his constituency, he gave a concise account of his stewardship as the representative of his people. His representation and experience is of greater advantage in the house of reps, as it offers the constituency more development and prominence, while attracting more projects and federal focus to the area.
At different meeting, he explains his people driven projects in his constituency while partnering the state and federal governments for sustainable development. Though, there was the clamor for more representation and visibility in each area, the general feelings also was that Eti-Osa should consciously promote and modify its stand in the politics of Lagos State.
In a chat with Infotrust, a party stalwart, Alhaji Idris Yahya stated that, “It is better to have an experienced legislator representing us than for us to send a green horn who will not have the political relevance and positioning of the constituency in the Federal House of Representatives. Hon Akinloye as Chairman, Anti-Corruption committee will be a better representation and with his experience, Lagos and Eti-Osa will benefit more in the next four years. In other clime, experienced legislators are returned without much ado because their experiences will impact positively on the House and their constituency”.
At the Obalende/Ikoyi leaders meeting, experience counts took center stage, as each leader believed that despite the short-comings of Hon. Jide Akinloye, an experienced hand in the house representing Eti-Osa constituency would open more possibilities. Hon. Wale Edun asked him about his oversight functions as Chairman, Anti-Corruption committee. Hon Jide Akinloye stated that as a lawyer and with experience in the house, under-funding was discovered as a major problem of the Independent Corrupt Practices (and other related offences) Commission [ICPC] which hinders the commission from functioning effectively. Also, its harp-hazard separated offices being the main and official anti-corruption agency in Nigeria was also a challenge. He explained that he and his committee were able to increase the budget of the agency by N1 billion and more importantly, get them a befitting office complex aside the bill he personally moved, which is currently at its committee consideration stage after its 2nd reading on the floor of the house.

The experience counts calculations and endorsement took another twist at Eti-Osa East (Ward B & E) after leaving Sangotedo, when the people agitated about the road leading into the area and the water challenges at the canal point. In his response, Hon. Akinloye, declared, “I am your son and I belong here.The problems of every LGA in this constituency is mine too. If i could do the Addo-Ajah-Badore road and was part of the Ogombo road when i was in the State House of Assembly, I can’t leave you now nor let my people down”. He showed the people a letter he wrote to the Minister of Works, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola who personally informed him that he had received the letter and something in earnest will be done.
On the issue of the water canal, he cleared the air on accusations that he stole the money for the canal project. Hon. Akinloye stated that as the Deputy Chairman, committee on Works, Lagos State, “I facilitated the construction of Ajah-Addo-Badore-Langbasa road network and will never steal from what my people will benefits from. I have a name to protect and good name is better than riches”.
He explained that he facilitated the canal project when he was the Deputy Chairman, Committee on Housing, House of Reps when he was asked to come up with a project. He presented the canal project in partnership with the then Minister of Works, Mrs Amma Pepple. Federal Ministry of Works awarded the project to the tune of 100 million. According to him, “I monitored the funds and when government changed, Mrs Pepple was relieved, that was the reason the project stopped. The 2nd phase was meant to continue, in view of this, I personally went to the Commissioner of Environment in Lagos State, Hon. Adejare explaining that since federal government could not continue the canal, the ministry of environment in Lagos state should continue the project. He agreed that Lagos state will take up the project. Don’t forget that i am at the federal level, there was little i can do other than to continue to mount pressure wherever necessary. I’ve always do that and won’t stop because it is to our benefit.” He promised to speak with the house of assembly member while the constituency should follow-up.
On the issue of resettlement, he reiterated that it is a state affair, he would likewise follow up with the Lagos assembly member and other key people.
