The Ebonyi State Police Command’s spokesperson, Loveth Odah, said two persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.

She added that the hoodlums also attacked the eldest child of the family, who is lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital.

Odah said, “The incident happened at Umuogodoakpu-Ngbo in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

“The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday; one man reported the incident at the Ohaukwu Divisional Police Station that when Mrs Oke was frying garri in her compound, two men invaded the house and killed her two children.”

The PPRO stated that the corpses of the kids had been deposited in the mortuary, adding that investigation was on to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.

An eyewitness, Onwe Emmanuel, said the hoodlums invaded the victims parents’ home and butchered them mercilessly, adding that two of the children died on the spot, while “one of them is lying critically ill in hospital.”

Emmanuel, who described the killing as unimaginable, said, “The unthinkable killings show that the world is coming to an end. These are seven and four-year-old kids.

“The mother was with her kids when the yet-to-be-identified persons came and snatched them from her. The woman was shouting and calling for help, but nobody could help her.

“The yet-to-be-identified persons stormed the family compound of the victims with the possible intention of wiping out the entire family. The children were brutally butchered.

“Their father, I learnt, is in Onitsha, Anambra State. He has left Onitsha for the village as I talk to you. Two persons were arrested, but they said they knew nothing about the killings, while the traumatised mother of the kids cannot say anything for now.” [PUNCH]
