Hoodlums Raze Senator’s Kano Campaign Office, Police Arrest 13

Some hoodlums on Thursday set ablaze the gubernatorial campaign office of the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, Senator Barau Jibrin.

The attackers were said to have attacked the office along Maiduguri Road in the metropolis in the early hours of Thursday with weapons.

The thugs also vandalized the new office of a faction of the All Progressives Congress on Zoo Road.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the police foiled an attempt by the hoodlums to also attack Jibrin’s house along Ibrahim Dabo Road.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Samaila Dikko, who confirmed the arrest of 13 suspects in connection with the arson, said they were apprehended with weapons.

Dikko, who spoke in Kano after a meeting with some senior police officers, assured that the suspects would be prosecuted.

Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement, said, “Around 8am, a report was received that thugs (Yan Daba), carrying weapons, were sighted attacking and vandalising the office of Senator Barau Jibrin, the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District along Maiduguri Road, Kano.”
He said exhibits recovered from the hoodlums included 34 weapons, 23 clubs (Gora), two gallons of petrol, one parcel and 30 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Others are 24 sachets of Diazepam tablets, four pieces of Red Sun Solution, one mobile phone, two ceiling fans and a bunch of charms.

Haruna said normalcy had since been restored, while investigation had commenced into the case.
