Host communities commend Dangote Refinery’s CSR

The Traditional rulers and community leaders in Ibeju-Lekki Free Trade Zone area of Lagos have appreciated Dangote Oil Refining Company (DORC) for providing infrastructures for their communities, as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The monarchs, at a stakeholder parley, commended Dangote Industries Limited for partnering them on various CSR initiatives targeted at developing Lekki Free Trade Zone communities.

They said Dangote Industries had so far demonstrated its resolve to address the people’s concerns, by complementing state government’s efforts in developing Lekki Free Trade Zone communities, where its refinery, fertilizer and jetty are located.

At the event, which held after a tour of Dangote Refinery, Fertilizer and Jetty, were leaders of communities around Idasho, Ilekuru, Okeyanta, Magbo-Segun, Okesegun, Itoke, Idotun, Alasia, Okunraiye and Lekki towns.

Other neighbouring communities like Imobido, Tiye, Mosa, Ilege, and Olomowewe were also represented.

Imobido Community head, Chief Jegede Lateef commended the company for siting its refinery and petrochemical plants in the community, saying his community was extremely lucky.

He emphasised that the company should ensure the various investments translate to infrastructural development and employment opportunities for host communities’ members.

Head, Tiye Community, Chief Adewale Salami, commending the company for the various completed and ongoing projects, promising the community would at all times provide an enabling environment for investment to thrive.

He said Dangote did well in enhancing the welfare of host communities, urging it not to relent in its efforts to ensure that jobs were provided for qualified graduates who are indigenes of Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Group Executive Director, Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, who received the group, expressed the company’s commitment to the execution of more strategic community development projects, particularly those that would improve host communities.

He disclosed that the company conducted a baseline survey on the needs in all the communities and the findings were used in developing a comprehensive Community Development Plan (CDP).
