A young man, who simply identified himself as Ahmed, revealed that he could have been part of the casualties in the gas explosion.

Ahmed who is a mechanic’s apprentice stated that his saving grace was a boy who got hit by a motorcycle.

He told The PUNCH that he rushed the boy to the nearest hospital and that was where he got the news about the gas explosion.

He said, “I did not witness the incident but I work here. God was merciful to me today because there was a young boy that got knocked down by a commercial motorcycle today. We impounded the motorcycle but I rushed the young boy to the nearest hospital. Due to the injuries he sustained, the hospital rejected him. So, we had to take him to another hospital.

It was while we were at the other hospital that I received a call about the gas explosion. When we got to the shop, we found rubbles. I am a mechanic here and we repair people’s car. As you can see, all the vehicles here have been damaged due to the explosion and they are over 10. I am not liable for the damage because I am just an apprentice.

I am still very shaken by the incident because, normally, whenever I resume work, I relax in a Benz in the workshop here. Now, the Benz has been damaged.

“If I was around, I would have been in the car or sitting outside the workshop trading banters with my friends. If the explosion had happened when I was around, I could have died. From now till Sunday, I will keep giving thanks to God for saving my life.”
