Sandra Brodrick, the wife of a newlywed tricycle rider, Omesa Brodrick, allegedly tortured by policemen from B Division, Warri, Delta State, says her husband’s healing has been tough after undergoing a brain surgery.

Post-surgery, Omesa barely responds to the urge to use the toilet and usually soils his body, Sandra lamented.

The wife had in a viral video recounted how the policemen brutalised her husband around 7pm on August 12 and left him for dead only to be rescued by a good Samaritan.

She said Omesa sustained internal head injuries and spent almost N5m for the treatment, noting the Divisional Police Officer, B Division, initially identified the power-drunk cops but later developed cold feet on the case and dared her to report the matter to higher authorities.

But the spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, denied that the policemen were being shielded by either the DPO or the command, claiming that they were undergoing an orderly room trial.

In an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, 31-year-old Sandra explained that the policemen had accused her husband of driving against traffic, an allegation he denied.

She said the cops beat him up when he refused to follow them to the station and one of them pushed him, causing him to hit his head on a concrete slab.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-7167863529667065&output=html&h=300&slotname=7746968165&adk=1618789237&adf=2248581979&pi=t.ma~as.7746968165&w=360&lmt=1630823626&rafmt=1&psa=1&format=360×300&url=https%3A%2F%2Fpunchng.com%2Fmy-husband-defecates-urinates-on-his-body-after-brain-surgery-wife-of-newlywed-tortured-by-policemen%2F%3Futm_source%3Dauto-read-also%26utm_medium%3Dweb&flash=0&fwr=1&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&dt=1630823652004&bpp=33&bdt=10421&idt=781&shv=r20210831&mjsv=m202109010101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3Ddf8459ab913c9a4d%3AT%3D1629904445%3AS%3DALNI_MbS25_irYhpQNrwwkjRpr6uBCgBBg&prev_fmts=360×300&correlator=496542935133&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=amp-KXIMzYUY9aSk4qq49NmqFQ&ga_sid=1630823653&ga_hid=416974529&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=4&u_java=0&u_h=720&u_w=360&u_ah=720&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=0&ady=2066&biw=360&bih=560&scr_x=0&scr_y=131&eid=31060475%2C31062297&oid=3&pvsid=1648468128810022&pem=660&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fpunchng.com%2Fnewlywed-undergoes-brain-surgery-after-police-torture-remains-unstable%2F&eae=0&fc=896&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C560%2C360%2C560&vis=1&rsz=o%7C%7CeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=128&bc=31&ifi=2&uci=a!2&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=OfZtBrs2UM&p=https%3A//punchng.com&dtd=849

Omesa had underwent a brain surgery due to injuries he sustained at the hands of the policemen identified as Ndubuisi, Felix and Felix Ezesobo.

She stated, “They said he plied ‘one-way’ (drove against traffic) but an eyewitness, a woman, said he didn’t. The woman said the policemen asked my husband to follow them to their station but he declined, saying he didn’t commit any offence. That was when they started beating him. One of them pushed him; he fell and hit his head on a slab. He became unconscious and they left him at the scene. He had to have brain surgery.

“We borrowed a lot of money for his treatment. The DPO was initially visiting him in the hospital and begging us not to put it on social media. Immediately the case was transferred to the police headquarters in Asaba (Delta State capital), he stopped coming and did not call.”

She said Omesa had yet to speak coherently a situation that made her feel sad and worried about his healing.

The woman said, “He misses things up and I have to correct him. Yesterday (Friday), he told me he wanted to eat pawpaw and wine. I had to tell him the combination is odd. I felt very bad and immediately entered my room. I cried. He doesn’t talk when he feels the urge to use the toilet, so he defecates and urinates on his body. I have been trying to remind him to tell me whenever he feels urge. The doctor said his recovery would be gradual.

“I cannot afford to buy the diapers he uses. A pack is N4,000 and it contains just 10 pieces.  I have a shop but since the incident happened, I can’t work. It is church members who have been helping us with foodstuffs.”

Sandra further explained that Omesa bought the tricycle for N1.3m on higher purchase and had just paid N450,000 prior to the incident, adding that the owner had collected it since he could no longer meet up with the repayment plan.null

She added, “About one week ago, my husband’s father, who lives in Benin City, Edo State, told me that some people representing the policemen approached him for a resolution and offered the family N2m. My father-in-law directed them to our lawyer who requested them to pay N15m as compensation. They left and we have not heard from them again.”

The result of a CT scan carried out on Omesa at Westend Hospital and dated August 13 revealed that he suffered “linear minimally displaced fracture” in the temporal bone – a thick, hard bone that forms part of the side and base of the skull. The bone is said to protect nerves and structures in the ear that control hearing and balance.

“Mild left hemo mastoideum is noted. Fracture lines are also probably seen extending into the wall of the left sphenoid sinus with left sphenoid hemosinus. Incidentally noted is multiple hemorrhagic contusions in bilateral frontotemporal lobes with midline shift towards left side,” the report signed by two consultant radiologists, Dr Nilesh Ingale and Dr Abhijeet Joshi, added.
