Former Super Eagles coach, Adegboye Onigbinde has disclosed that he decided to file for divorce to put to an end an almost two decades unresolved dispute between him and his wife, Abiona.

Onigbinde, who coached the Nigerian national team between 1981 and 1984 and 2002, while speaking with The Guardian yesterday, said, “It is true I filed to divorce my wife. I don’t think I should go into details because the case is in court, but for public knowledge, I want the public to know that I sued for a divorce because I want to live longer. The togetherness is no longer peaceful.
“I am 79 and I don’t want anything that would trouble my heart. The case is before the court and we have been asked to come back on the 28 of this month (September) to decide on the case.
“We have been on the domestic issue for almost two decades and I think it is time to put an end to it.”
Onigbinde, who last coached the Super Eagles after the sack of the coaching crew of Shuaibu Amodu in 2002, filed for divorce at an Ibadan Customary Grade C Court sitting in Mapo.
The court adjourned the case, but not before Onigbinde asked for protection, saying that he was nearly attacked recently when one of his children and her husband came to his house.
